NBPTS Exceptional Needs Specialist Practice Exam – Practice Test & Study Guide

The correct order of the four steps of learning through modeling is Attention, Retention, Reproduction, and Motivation. This sequence reflects the processes involved in observational learning.

Attention is the first step because, for an individual to learn through modeling, they must first pay attention to the model. If the learner does not focus on the behavior being demonstrated, they cannot effectively process or learn that behavior.

Retention follows attention. In this step, the learner must be able to store the observed behavior in memory for later use. This involves internalizing the information to be accessed when needed.

Reproduction occurs next. This is where the learner attempts to replicate or reproduce the behavior they observed. Successful reproduction involves translating the retained information into action.

Finally, motivation plays a crucial role. For the learner to actually perform the behavior, they need a reason or incentive to do so. This might stem from observing the consequences the model experienced, such as rewards or benefits, which can encourage the learner to act similarly.

This understanding illustrates the importance of each step in enabling effective learning through modeling, emphasizing how each stage builds upon the previous one to facilitate the observational learning process.
